In a significant shakeup for the Grand Junction Jackalopes, the organization has officially appointed Frank Gonzales as their new manager, as unveiled in a press release on Monday. This marks a pivotal moment for the club, which is gearing up for transformation and renewed ambitions.
Previously at the helm of the Grand Junction Rockies from 2016 to 2017, Gonzales has accumulated a wealth of experience over the years. Most recently, he led the Northern Colorado Owlz, imparting his expertise in the art of baseball management. His predecessor, Chris Knabenshue, now makes way for Gonzales’s seasoned presence.
Adding a touch of familiarity to the roster, it’s worth noting that the baseball lineage does run deep; Gonzales is the proud father of Marco, a pitcher who has donned the uniforms of the Cardinals, Mariners, and Pirates during a distinguished decade-long career in Major League Baseball.
Hailing from La Junta, Frank Gonzales made waves in the baseball world when he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 16th round of the 1989 draft. His journey has largely unfolded in the minor leagues, but there’s more to his tale—he has lent his talents to coaching within Colorado State’s baseball program as well.
“My passion for managing and coaching is ingrained in me, and nothing excites me more than mentoring young athletes as they pursue their dreams,” Gonzales expressed enthusiastically in the announcement. With 15 seasons of professional coaching under his belt, he disclosed an affectionate sentiment for Grand Junction, declaring it among his favorite places to lead. The anticipation for the upcoming 2025 season is palpable, as Gonzales looks forward to donning the managerial cap for the Jackalopes.
Last season, the Jackalopes faced challenges, wrapping up with a record of 37-58, which placed them at the bottom of the Pioneer Baseball League standings. However, hope springs eternal, especially as this upcoming 2025 season will mark the club’s third year under the Jackalopes banner. Notably, they previously claimed the Pioneer Baseball League championship in 2022 as the Grand Junction Rockies, igniting hopes of resurrecting such glory once again.
